Looking for a massCode alternative?
massCode is what a lot of developers actually want from a snippet manager: free, open source, local, fast, with multi-fragment snippets and Markdown preview. For a single machine it's hard to argue with, and we won't. The-Snip exists for the moment the snippets stop being yours and start being the team's: a hosted workspace with review so canon stays trustworthy, saved API calls next to the code that uses them, docs with [[wikilinks]], search that ranks titles above bodies — and a REST + MCP surface so Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client can search the base mid-task and file new knowledge back for a human to approve.

Questions, answered.
massCode is free — what am I paying for?
The hosted, multi-user part: workspaces and roles, the review workflow, weighted search across the team's whole base, and agent writes over the REST API and hosted MCP server (agent reads are free on every plan). One plan, Pro & Team, $8/user/month; free up to 25 items.
Can I migrate from massCode?
Your massCode data folder is plain files, so nothing blocks you — paste the snippets your team actually shares into a workspace and tag them as you go. Most migrations move the top fifty snippets, not the whole archive. Export back out as .md/.json anytime.
Does massCode work with AI agents?
It exposes a local app API that launcher and editor integrations use, but there's no hosted, team-scoped agent surface as of mid-2026. The-Snip's MCP server gives any MCP client eight tools against the shared base, authenticated with a workspace API key, with review on every write.
Is The-Snip open source?
No — it's a hosted product. What we offer instead of source is portability: full export as .md or .json on the paid plan, so leaving is a download, not a negotiation.
Why does a review gate matter for snippets?
Because a wrong snippet is worse than no snippet — it gets copied with confidence. Review means everything in canon was approved by a human, including what your agents propose. Search then surfaces trusted answers, not recent guesses.
